Parrothead
Cruise Announcement Our
apologies to all of the pholks who have been waiting patiently for news about
our next Parrothead Cruise.
Our cruise partner Carnival
has made many changes in policy, personnel and direction over the last year
that have made it difficult to plan and execute an event like ours with the
quality we're committed to delivering. We've been working with Carnival, and
also exploring other options including other cruise lines and land-based resorts.
Unfortunately each of these avenues have introduced considerable obstacles.
For this reason, and also due in part to personal circumstances of some of
the key organizers of the event, we have made the decision to suspend the
event for 2011. It is very much our hope and objective to resume the Parrothead
Cruise in the future, but there will not be a Parrothead Cruise 2011.
We did not arrive at this
decision lightly, and I expect that many folks will be disappointed at the
news. I know we are. The simple fact is that Carnival is actively moving away
from large group sailings, and starting over with any new partner will take
time and effort. The support and enthusiasm for the Parrothead Cruise has
been overwhelming, and the thousands of participants over the past 12 years
have led to countless memories and have also raised over $320,000 for charity.
It has always been a Party with a Purpose, and we're hopeful the Party will
resume.
What
about all these other events? There
are a number of great Parrothead events in the planning stages that hope to
fill the void left by the suspension of Parrothead Cruise 2011, including
some tropical-themed cruises. We encourage you to support other events, phlockings
and charitable endeavors.
These events and cruises are not endorsed by or affiliated with the Atlanta
Parrot Head Club or the Parrothead Cruise. Contrary to rumor, there is no official or endorsed substitute event.
